Something worth protecting: Beaverhead River Clean Up and Pint Night

For a small town to be so blessed, there must be something worth protecting.  The Beaverhead flows right through the town of Dillon and can be accessed from any University of Montana-Western classroom in about 3 minutes.  This river has been the training grounds for the some of the best guides in the state of Montana, and will continue to be so for many graduating classes to come.  Between the Beaverhead River, the University, and the ranching community, Dillon has become a rare microcosm on Montana’s wide open landscape of people from different backgrounds and philosophies to find common ground.  A place where an outdoorsman can find work, a rancher can make a living, and a student can chase their dreams, is uncommon in this day and age.  Dillon has proven to be a fertile area for one to create their own business, and follow their dreams (as long as they are outside!).  So please, if you love to fish, love to float, love to hunt, hike, drive, tube, camp, or just listen to the river, come and support our local chapter of Trout Unlimited and help us clean up the river that put Dillon on the map.

What: Pint Night to support Lewis and Clark Trout Unlimited

Where: Beaverhead Brewing Co. Dillon, MT

When: March 31, 2017 5 pm – 8 pm

Why: $1 of every pint sold will be donated back to Trout Unlimited. Our chapter uses these funds to send local youth to a summer fly fishing camp, support public river access on the Ruby River and other local conservation efforts.

Lia and I have adjusted back to our real life here after a month on the beach.  We have enough wood for the winter, enough booze for the night, and we are planning our next rally at Pint Night.  The Beaverhead River has been in bad shape, as many of you know.  There are raffle tickets available around town and through us with fantastic prizes and donations from local businesses. A river clean-up hosted by our TU will take place on April 8, and volunteers can sign up at Pint Night.

If anyone needs tickets please call me at 406-544-9815 and I will get them to you right away.

SW Montana fishing update

April came and went, and we are barreling towards a busy summer in southwest Montana. The Big Hole doubled in a day after 70+ degree weather on Friday, and the clarity has decreased to less than 6″. W
