Big Hole River 3680 cfs, temp. 48, visibility 3+ feet
I didn’t fish today but Owen (who is going to start guiding for me) and his friends did the Divide to Melrose stretch and they reported fair to good fishing. When the clouds came over is was good and when the sun came out it was just fair. They stayed with streamers all day and olive and tan worked the best. There were a few small fish rising. These are the guys who caught that 27 inch brown in that same stretch last year. I’m still waiting for the photo so we can put it in the gallery (by the way that’s fixed) I didn’t know you could not get on it until some folks notified me. I called my man Jason and he fixed it pronto.
When I walked along the river a few moments ago I noticed just a few caddis. With the weather warming up this week I look for some more caddis action in late afternoon and evening. I don’t think we will see the clouds of caddis like we did last week but there should be enough of them to keep the fish interested.
Dan Deleckta from Bear Tooth Fly Fishing Lodge on the Madison reported that river is murky but is fishing if you know how to fish it. They purged it last week and it is on the way down.
