Big Hole River update

It's a slow day in the Big Hole Valley; cold and snowy! Just what we like to see in April. We are currently under a Winter Weather Advisory until mid-day tomorrow, and hoping to see 3+ inches of wet snow. It also looks like temperatures are going to remain rather cool for the next 5 or so days, so we expect to see the current flows bump up and then level off or drop.
If you are looking to head out, expect to find cold water temperatures, and be ready for a rollercoaster of weather. Nymph fishing will probably be the best strategy, with the streamer bite picking up as water temperatures return to average. We would suggest heading to the lower river (below Melrose), and focus on the slow moving water / deep runs. Suggested flies include san juan worms and BWO patterns (olive perdigon, olive micromay, phessant tail, Jigged BWO) in a size #16. A skwalla nymph would not be a bad secondary option too.
We are open daily, with shuttles available. The woodstove at the fly shop will be nice and toasty, so swing in for a warm-up and to grab some bugs!
