Social distancing fishing report: 3/30
Governor Bullock has ordered Montanans to “shelter-in-place” for two weeks to combat the Corona virus. Our public lands and waters, now more than ever, are a resource for us to escape the news and practice social distancing. We are hoping to open the shop by April 11, but will follow the directives of the state. We hope everyone can stay healthy and sane during this time.
Big Hole flows @ Maiden Rock = 377 cfs Water Temp between 35 – 43 degrees The trout have been active on #10 and #12 Pats Rubber Legs (black, brown or olive) as well as #18 Pheasant Tails & olive or brown micromay nymphs. If you prefer to throw streamers, don’t get too heavy. Mini-dungeons, small articulated buggers, and traditional wooly buggers should do the trick. Spend some time fishing the slow pools, fast water has not been very productive with the cold water temperatures.
The river is beginning to see some thawing above Jerry Creek, but is not floatable. Don’t bite off more than you can row..Divide to Melrose is a long day, but certainly doable! It looks like we are in for another week of cold temps in the upper valley, so we likely won’t be floating up high for a while.
