The Big Hole River is going into it’s winter season at a super flow of around 600 cfs. This means plenty of water for all fish through this season. Today it turned from a very fishable river to not so fishable. When I got up this morning it was a bright, white, frosty, cold morning and the river was all steam and slush ice. It was actually very beautiful but in my many years of looking at this start of winter all I could think of was getting the hell out of here. The wood stove has been stoked all day and is loaded up this evening. Temps are going to get down to about 10 below in these mountain valley’s tonight and probably 20 below up at Wisdom. In the past this would not bother me one bit but since I have been spoiled with my ventures to Andros, my bags are already packed.
