Broke Loose

That big ice jam just above Dickie bridge broke loose two days ago and now the river is pretty much ice free except for the huge chunks shoved up on the banks on the upper part caused by all that pressure. It won’t take long before they melt away now.

The river is running well above average at 3700 cfs. The median average for this time of year at the Melrose station is 1100 cfs based on an eighty year average. We wanted more water and man did we get it. Like the old saying goes “sometimes you have to be careful what you wish for”. In the long run it’s great for the river. I look for it to start receding in the next week. Late April and May should be good fishing and then it will come up again around the first of June with the main runoff.

Congratulations to Jason and Carla on the arrival of their new baby girl. Cora Monet came into this world at a whopping 8.3 pounds. Jason, who is my stepson came up with the idea to start this blog and is totally responsible for setting it all up. I can’t thank him enough and am very happy for them both as this is their first. Is a week old too soon to start teaching them how to flyfish?

Should have a fishing report from Andros Island in the next day or two.
