Big Hole River 2710 cfs–Maidenrock
I just had a call from my friends Shane and Chad from Butte. They stopped at the shop yesterday to get a shuttle. They were limited for time so they did a fairly short run. The report they gave me this morning was super. They caught fish on nymphs, streamers and skwala patterns on top. The biggest fish were right at the 20 inch mark and were caught with streamers.
We have had quite a bit of rain the last couple days so the river is rising but the fishing is still good. I look for it to start leveling off in the next couple days. Forecast for the weekend is good.
This coming Saturday, May 9th there will be a Kid’s Day at the Meriwether Ranch north of Melrose. Local outfitters and guides including myself have volunteered their time and boats to take these kids on a short float trip. At first they were thinking there would be approximately 30 kids. At this time there are over 80 signed up and many more on a waiting list. The float trip will be from Maidenrock MFWP (deadzone) to the upper slough channel on the Meriwether ranch. Each guide will be doing multiple trips. If you are planning on being on that stretch of river Saturday you can expect lots of company. The kids will not be fishing and we will do our best to stay out of your way.
