Fishing Report: 8/4/23

We are happy to see some cloudy weather, with a little rain and cooler weather forecast for the next 5 or so days. The fishing on the Big Hole has been terrific! The trico hatch has begun, and the best time to hit this is from 9 AM to about noon. Don't ignore the shallow water; we have been seeing some great fish sipping in the shallows. Other dry fly action includes summer stones, grasshoppers, ants and an occasional spruce moth. As the day goes on, don't hesitate to drop a small perdigon, Spanish bullet or Frenchie off of a chubby or hopper pattern. For those of you who can't put down your streamer rod, the trout have been chasing really well! Try the Olive Mini Dungeon or Olive Zirdle.

We have some awesome new chubby patterns to check out in the fly shop, and are also well stocked on tricos and ants. Be sure to stop in before you head to the river for a current report and a few new flies.

Current Big Hole River restrictions: - Hoot Owl on: Section 1 (Skinner Meadows to N. Fork Big Hole), Section 2 (N. Fork Big Hole to Dickie Bridge), Section 4 (Maiden Rock FWP AKA Dead Zone to Tony Schoonen), Section 5 (Tony Schoonen to Beaverhead confluence).

Hoot Owl restrictions prohibit all fishing from 2 PM to Midnight

We still have some prime September guide dates available, give the shop a call to see what's open. Also, we are now booking Andros Island bonefish trips for 2024. Head on over to our Andros page for more info!
