Mother's Day Weekend is here, and it is a fantastic time to come to the Big Hole. The river has been on a slow rise for the past few days, but it has not affected the clarity. Our weather looks great for the next few days. We expect boat traffic to increase, but with flows at a manageable level, the entire river is fishable, which will disperse boat traffic.
The low down on the Caddis: we have not found any fish gorging themselves on them yet, but if you are patient and find some slow back-water, you will find fish picking off a few. Our best bite has been after 2 PM, with the hatch getting thicker as the day goes on. We have been having good luck slapping streamers on the bank, and getting fish to quickly eat them with a couple quick strips.
If you are game for some nymphing, the worm bite has been good, paired with a Frenchie or Psycho May. We have still been having good luck with white, cream and natural colored streamers: Goldie, Cream Mini Dungeon and Dolly Llamas.
