Big Hole River 660cfs, temp. 49

January and February were quite dry but we are making up for it now. Presently it is snowing and the forecast for the next 5 days is rain and snow.

This reminds me of a trip on the Big Hole last year about this time. It was snowing periodically all morning and the clients were debating if they wanted to go or not. Finally one guy said, “I don’t give a damn about the snow I want to go fishing”. We started out with streamers and then I noticed a couple fish feeding on top. As I watched the water, all of a sudden it was covered with baetis. We quickly switched to dry fly’s and had an incredible day. My fingers were about froze from reaching in the water to release fish. I never count fish but that day was by far the best as far as numbers go for the entire season.
