Slowed Down

Big Hole River 282 cfs Beaverhead River 723 cfs

Very few spruce moths were to be found today and the action on those patterns was slow. The fisherman who stayed with those patterns did poorly and the fisherman who switched to mayfly patterns did fairly well. Are there more spruce moths to come? Who knows for sure but I’m guessing there will be.

That was a welcome rain shower we had last night and it did bring the river up a little and every little bit helps.

Clark Canyon Dam has been fishing very well using a variety of nymphs. Chuck Robbins was telling me this evening there are some really big fish being caught.

I’m not a purist by any means but sitting in a anchored boat on a lake and staring at the bobber (sorry, strike indicator) just isn’t very appealing to me. However Chuck and I are going to try it next week some time. If, not if but when we get tired of staring at the bobber Chuck said we can go into some of the back shallow bays and sight fish for carp, now that can be a real hoot. I’ve only done that once and it was a lot of fun.
