I was lucky enough to fish with two wonderful gentleman from Bozeman yesterday from Divide to Melrose. The fishing started as soon as we got in the water using a JJ’s #6 out off the back of the boat and a stone and worm in the front. The sun came out after about an hour and a half and the streamer and nymph bite tapered off. As the rain clouds rolled back in the bugs started to move. The hatch included BWO’s #16, March Browns #12, and finally Skwalla’s. We switched the rods over to a dry dropper set up with a purple chubby on top and proceeded to give those fish a lesson. Most of the eats were right against the bank in the slower water all the way to the dead zone above Melrose. Once we popped out of the canyon the fishing slowed down quite a bit, but we still managed to pick up a couple rainbows before the take out. Its always a good day when you can catch fish on streamers, nymphs, and dry flies.
Great Divide Outfitters is also running trips to the Gates of the Mountains on the mighty Mo. If you have any questions or would like to book a trip up there give us a call at the shop. Also don’t forget that we are still running our spring special of $395 for two anglers until May 15. Tight lines!
