Big Hole River 267 cfs Beaverhead River 815 cfs
It was quite cool this morning with the temp. at Divide at 38. I also heard there was frost in the upper valley near Wisdom. The water temp. at 5:00 pm at the Melrose station was 67.5. At the same time we took our unofficial reading at the Divide Access and it was 61.5
There are already rumors going around that the Big Hole is closed. Nothing could be further from the truth. The spruce moths were a bit slow coming out this morning and when they did they were all wearing their fleece vests. I had some anglers tell me that fish would come up to and bump the naturals and not eat them. They might be getting sick of them by now and are looking for a little different diet. May fly pattens are working just as well or better than the moths. The trico hatch is getting heavier every day and look for them between nine and ten in the morning. Usually by noon there all gone.
Pat gave an interesting rebuttal comment on the Big Hole Legacy Project entry. If you haven’t read it, I encourage you to do so to get his views on the subject.
More cooler temps. are forecast for tomorrow and the rest of the week. Now that the water temp. is more to our liking it sure would be nice to get some rain to get the flow up a bit.
