Lotsa Ice

ice and debris

Pump Station Area

This is no April fools deal, this is the real thing. This morning I noticed a little ice floating down the river and then a little more. In a few minutes it was bank to bank with ice flow. This went on for almost two hours. It had to go completely out of its banks upstream because there were lots of logs and trees and barn timbers that were still attached with long spikes.

I will predict that with all this ice clearing off now, mid April will be some excellent fishing.

  1. On the way back home today, after a weekend at the cabin in Wisdom, we noticed the ice jam just below Fishtrap breaking up and pulled over on the curve just above the Anaconda Sportsman’s Park and it was an amazing sight to see. The river rose about a foot as the flow came around the curve, so we hurried down to the spot below Anaconda Sportsman’s Park to see what would happen at that ice jam when the upriver flow hit, but it had already cleared.
