Mighty Fine

Big Hole River 764 cfs—Maidenrock

A couple days ago fishing was lousy, there was gobs of snot-grass floating down the river and fisherman were headin outta Dodge to seek finer streams.
Shoulda been here today my friend as top water action was about as good as it can get. At one point, Ron made three casts and had a fish on every cast. As for hatches there was just about everything except for Salmon Flies. Caddis, mayfly’s, tricos, spruce moths and the hoppers were clicking along the banks constantly.
The flow at 764 cfs for this time of year is terrific and even awesome.

Forecast is for cooler temps again Thursday and Friday with 50 % chance of rain so you can just figure on it.

There are also good reports coming from the Beaverhead with tricos below the dam and hoppers down stream. Clark Canyon dam is also starting to fish good.

  1. Hi Al, thanks for the good posts–I was out of town and it was nice to keep up with how the River’s doin’. Stopped in for a few Spruce Moth imitations this a.m., those tan Xs (whatever they’re called) were GREAT. Quit fishing about 11 when the first boat full of yahooties came by–but I was tired of catching fish anyway by that time.

Somebody killed my pet rattler–maybe those guys from Florida? I guess not everyone is OK with a little buzzing in the grass next to the trail now & then… But if it’s not a campground or other place with kids, I just leave ’em alone.

  2. Can we not talk about fishing on this site ? Has anyone seen the climatalogical data so far for Butte this month ? Global Warming AHHH Malarchy !!!. Snow levels tonight could be at 7500 feet. Maybe someday drought will be a thing of the past

  3. Not talk about fishing on this site???? Better look for a different site.
