I would like to wish each and all a very Merry Christmas from us at Great Divide Outfitters and from Hank and Eva here on Andros Island.
May the fish of a thousand dreams be yours for the taking in the New Year.
A few years ago, I had the pleasure of floating and fishing the Big Hole with Art as my guide. Todd Trigsted, a mutual friend formerly from Butte, set it up. Right now, I am trying to figure out when would be the best time to come back to the Big Hole with two Indianans who have never thrown a fly, a friend from Clarkston, Wash., who hasn’t thrown many, along with Todd and myself. My Christmas/New Year’s wish is to come up with a plan that puts us into the fish at the right time of year, with room to lodge somewhere near the river (if your lodge is not already booked).
Even though we dumped the boat and lost a box full of flies, we caught a bunch of fat browns, pretty easily, and I think it would be a great indoctrination to fly casting for my Indiana friends. I can think of no river more beautiful.
I would suggest mid May if that would fit your schedule.
